The specific program mentioned is located in Pleasant Prairie, WI, with a shift period from May 18th to August 7th. The pay rate for this program ranges from $18.00 to $23.00 per hour.

Job Description

The purpose of Southwire’s College Programs is to help early career professionals transition from school to work by combining formal learning with productive work. Interns and co-ops receive “real world” applications of their academic studies, helpful feedback and coaching, and are considered for employment after graduation. All new interns and co-ops must begin in the summer rotation.

General Intern/Co-op Program Details:
Assignment Length: Generally 10-12 weeks for interns and 16-18 weeks for co-ops.
Project-Based: Each student will have assigned projects related to their field of study, requiring them to develop a timeline, provide progress updates, and deliver a final presentation in a senior leadership expo.
Collaborative Environment: Interns will collaborate on exciting projects and work with talented peers and inspirational leaders, many of whom started as interns or co-ops.
Robust Development: The program offers an immersive onboarding and offboarding experience, an assigned mentor, networking opportunities, organized events, activities, and community service/volunteer initiatives.
Impact and Exposure: Interns have the opportunity to impact the future of the organization while being exposed to a world-class program community.
Full-Time Opportunities: Rising senior interns and co-ops are considered for full-time employment opportunities.

Position Summary (Safety Intern):
This position specifically supports the Health and Safety team by assisting with programs and initiatives to ensure a safe and compliant work environment. The Safety Intern will play a key role in supporting workplace safety initiatives by analyzing trends, conducting compliance audits, and developing actionable improvement plans. This internship provides hands-on experience in safety culture development, risk assessment, and engineering controls. The role emphasizes influencing safe behaviors, improving safety standards, and collaborating across departments to drive change.

Key Responsibilities (Specific to Safety Intern):
• Assist in conducting safety audits and inspections within facilities.
• Support the development and delivery of safety training materials and programs.
• Participate in Kaizen events and hazard identification activities.
• Collect, analyze, and report safety data and incident trends.
• Help maintain safety documentation and compliance records.
• Research and recommend best practices to enhance workplace safety culture.
• Assist with safety communications and awareness campaigns.
• Collaborate with team members on safety improvement projects and initiatives.
• Perform other safety-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
• Minimum 2.5 GPA.
• Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree in Environmental Health and Safety or Industrial Engineering.
• Reliable transportation to and from work.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Strong organization, planning, and analytical skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) or other relevant tools.
