Job Description

Robotics Engineer | Confidential Employer

The Tone:
This is an office-based, full-time role at XYZ Reality, located in London. XYZ Reality has developed the world’s only engineering-grade augmented reality solution for construction, delivered through The Atom headset, ensuring projects are on time and on budget. This role is crucial for extending this technology to robotics, enabling autonomous operations in complex construction environments, and making a tangible impact on the future of the construction industry.

The TL;DR
• Role: Full Time
• Type: Full-time
• Location: In-person London, London

• Team: Individual contributor role
• Mission: Extend XYZ Reality’s technology toward robots that can operate reliably in construction environments, from data collection to executing construction tasks.
• Tech Stack: ROS 2, NVIDIA Isaac Lab, Python, C++, NVIDIA Isaac Sim, reinforcement learning, imitation learning, kinematics, coordinate frames, feedback control, state estimation, path planning, robot hardware, SLAM, perception, sensor fusion, BIM/CAD

What You’ll Actually Do
• Integrate: Integrate robots with XYZ’s software, bringing up ROS / ROS 2 interfaces, and building repeatable tools for bring-up, configuration, logging and monitoring.
• Control: Establish reliable baseline control and develop task-specific behaviours for navigation, positioning and capture, training and tuning control policies in simulation.
• Plan: Develop localisation-aware path planning, waypoint execution and obstacle handling, working with project and site teams to turn work plans into robot missions.
• Capture: Integrate capture payloads so images, pose, timing and mission status flow reliably into XYZ’s construction progress workflows.
• Improve: Design test scenarios and measure mission completion, coverage, localisation quality, intervention, recovery and repeatability, improving the system through measured iterations.

The Must-Haves
• Background: MSc or PhD in Robotics, Controls, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or a related discipline, or equivalent applied robotics experience. No industry experience is required.
• Experience: Hands-on experience building, programming, or directly controlling a physical robot from an academic project, research lab, or industry. Practical ROS experience (ideally ROS 2). Experience training or tuning robot control policies using NVIDIA Isaac Lab / Isaac Sim or similar tools, with a rigorous experimental approach.
• Skills: Strong Python and C++, ROS / ROS 2, kinematics, coordinate frames, feedback control, state estimation, path planning, and working knowledge of robot hardware.
• Bonus: Sim-to-real transfer on physical hardware; Navigation, SLAM, perception & sensor fusion; Mobile or field robotics, BIM/CAD or construction technology.
