Role Overview:

Retail Management Interns serve as essential “sidekicks” to our managers at Kitty Hawk Kites, Kitty Hawk Surf Co, and Life is Good retail stores. These candidates will assist our Managers during our busiest season, from May to September, gaining invaluable hands-on experience.

This unique internship offers the chance to acquire significant Retail Management experience while enjoying the coastal environment, waterways, and vibrant culture of the Outer Banks.

We are seeking candidates with excellent customer service skills, a keen eye for detail, and comfort with basic retail operations. This application is specifically for our OBX locations.

Intern Requirements:

• Commitment to a 12-week internship period.
• Flexible availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Demonstrated commitment to customer service through great teamwork and communication skills.
• Dedication to excellence, shown by taking initiative and continuously increasing product knowledge.

Primary Purpose & Responsibilities:

This is a full-time seasonal position, up to 40 hours per week, with varying workdays and shifts.

General Expectations and Opportunities Include:

• Promotion of Kitty Hawk Kites/Kitty Hawk Surf Co/Life is Good through advertising and activities to increase sales and productivity.
• Learn the comprehensive operations of a seasonal retail business.
• Gain understanding of basic retail manager responsibilities, including scheduling, payroll procedures, and supervising employees.
• Generate and share daily, weekly, and monthly sales goals, developing strategies to meet and exceed them.
• Deliver exceptional Customer Service: Greet and assist all customers, practice customer awareness, engage customers, answer phones, distribute brochures, and provide varied assistance as needed.
• Maintain a positive attitude and enthusiasm for customer service.
• Perform Retail Sales and Service.
• Operate POS system for the sales of merchandise, rentals, and bookings.
• Handle Inventory Management: fold, hang, security tag, and merchandise all new stock.
• Store Maintenance: Clean and maintain the store and merchandise (vacuum, dust, clean glass, sweep, straighten merchandise). Inspect and maintain all rental equipment. Keep store neat and orderly.
• Willingly assist with a variety of tasks as needed by supervisor.
