The Tone:
This is a full-time, hybrid role, located in New York, NY or Chicago, IL. Plona Partners is conducting a confidential search for an internationally recognized AmLaw 30 law firm. This firm’s highly regarded Bankruptcy & Restructuring practice represents debtors, official committees, secured lenders, investors, and other major stakeholders in some of the country’s most complex corporate restructurings. The Bankruptcy Paralegal will play a vital role in supporting high-profile Chapter 11 matters, contributing to cases that influence entire industries, while benefiting from extensive mentorship, resources, and career advancement opportunities only a premier international firm can offer.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Manage all aspects of complex Chapter 11 case files, guiding them from initial filing through final confirmation.
• Prepare and accurately file a wide range of bankruptcy documents, including first-day motions, petitions, notices, and pleadings, utilizing CM/ECF and coordinating submissions with claims agents.
• Conduct thorough legal research across platforms like Lexis, Westlaw, and Shepard’s, alongside performing cite checking and Bluebook citation review.
• Assist comprehensively with trial preparation, compiling witness materials, exhibits, and hearing binders, and managing courtroom logistics.
• Coordinate effectively with attorneys, clients, court personnel, and vendors, while meticulously maintaining organized case files across multiple simultaneous restructuring engagements.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Requires 3–5 years of dedicated paralegal experience within a law firm setting. Candidates must possess meaningful, direct experience supporting complex Chapter 11 bankruptcy or corporate restructuring matters.
• Experience: Proven capability in filing documents through CM/ECF is essential. Familiarity with preparing fee applications and adhering to U.S. Trustee billing guidelines is also required, alongside a strong understanding of bankruptcy procedures, local rules, and federal court practice.
• Skills: Demonstrates strong legal research proficiency using Lexis, Westlaw, and Shepard’s, coupled with Bluebook citation expertise. Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat are necessary, along with outstanding organizational abilities and exceptional attention to detail, crucial for managing multiple deadlines in a sophisticated legal environment.
