Job Description: Research Scientist, Networking Engineering AI Research Team
What You’ll Do:
As a Research Scientist, you will play a crucial role in advancing fundamental research in AI, focusing on its applications in networking, programming, human-computer interaction, and other strategic areas of computer science.
• Drive Research: Produce fundamental research advances by researching foundational representations relevant to networking and security.
• Broaden Impact: Ensure your research translates into value across a diverse set of applications.
• Lead Thought Leadership: Establish yourself as a thought leader in the global research community through publications, technical presentations, and workshop organization.
Who You’ll Work With:
You will join a newly formed, dynamic AI team at Cisco, with the opportunity to influence the team’s culture and direction. The team comprises AI experts and networking domain experts, fostering collaboration and learning. You will also interact closely with engineers, product managers, and strategists who bring deep expertise in AI and distributed systems.
The Team:
The Cisco Networking Engineering AI Research team is composed of AI research scientists, data scientists, and network engineers, all working together on both basic and applied research projects. The team is driven by tackling unique research challenges that arise from connecting people and devices on a global scale.
Minimum Qualifications:
• PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• Publications at top AI venues such as ACL, EMNLP, ICLR, ICML, NAACL, NeurIPS, or similar, or grants, fellowships, or awards.
• Experience working with Machine Learning Models (MLMs) and familiarity with associated frameworks, such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or equivalent platforms.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience driving research projects within an industry or university lab.
• Interest in combining representation learning and problem-specific properties.
• Experience in building and fine-tuning foundation models, including LLMs and multi-modal models or domain-specific models.
• Ability to maintain cutting-edge knowledge in generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), and multi-modal models and apply these technologies innovatively to emerging business problems, use cases, and scenarios.
• Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills conducive to collaboration.
• Experience working in an industrial research lab (full-time, internship, sabbatical, etc.).
