Job Description
This internship or graduation assignment focuses on Color Management, a crucial aspect of developing qualitative software and machines for production printing. The project aims to improve color consistency when printing on different substrates.
The core task:
• Find an invertible mapping that linearizes spectral reflectance measurement data with respect to CMYK tone values.
Background:
• Color appearance after printing is influenced by both ink and substrate.
• To achieve color consistency across different substrates, ink amounts need to be adjusted.
• Spectral reflectance, which measures how much light is reflected at different wavelengths, is a way to express color.
• A color prediction model uses spectral reflectance measurements of printed test colors to determine the resulting color for any CMYK combination.
The challenge:
• Before using the color prediction model, spectral reflectance is linearized with respect to CMYK to improve interpolation.
• Currently, linearization is done using basic methods like applying the negative logarithm to spectral reflectance.
• This internship involves exploring alternative strategies for linearizing spectral reflectance, gaining deeper insight into how it behaves in relation to CMYK tone values, and developing a more optimal approach.
This internship is ideal for:
• Master’s level students in Applied Mathematics.
• Individuals proficient in prototyping languages like Matlab or Python.
• Students comfortable writing academically in English.
• Those capable of independent research and critical analysis of scientific literature.
Benefits:
• A challenging assignment with skilled coaching.
• Internship/Graduation compensation of €500,- per month.
• Travel cost compensation for those without an OV-weekcard.
• Opportunities to network with professionals within and beyond your field.
• A collaborative environment emphasizing innovation and ownership.
