Position: Research Intern
Department: Kresge Hearing Research Institute (Department of Otolaryngology & Head and Neck Surgery, Medical School, University of Michigan)
Program: Michigan Otolaryngology Research Education (MORE): R25 Pre-Doctoral Fellowship
Location: Ann Arbor Campus, Ann Arbor, MI
Overview:
The Department of Otolaryngology & Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Michigan aims to train future leaders in the field through the MORE program. This pre-doctoral fellowship provides research education to residents and medical students, enabling them to develop successful careers as clinician-scientists.
Details:
• Two dedicated 9-month research positions are available for medical students each year (start/end dates are flexible but must conclude by June 30 of the subsequent year).
• A stipend is provided, along with discretionary support for research materials, meeting attendance/presentation, training, and coursework.
• The program includes didactic experiences in research ethics and mentorship and career support.

Requirements:
• Applicants must have submitted an R25 MORE Pre-Doctoral application and received approval.
Responsibilities:
• Perform basic or applied research in a complex area, potentially where existing theories or methods are limited.
• Identify and select research problems to study.
• Perform experiments, collect, and analyze data.
• Prepare research results for publication in reports, papers, journals, books, and other media.
• Prepare seminars, talks, or lectures for disseminating knowledge, especially research findings.
• Develop working relationships with sponsors or potential sponsors.
• Assist in preparing detailed research proposals for funding agencies.
Required Qualifications:
• NIH requires applicants to be a citizen or a noncitizen national of the United States or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence (possess a currently valid Permanent Resident Care USCIS Form 1-551, or other legal verification of such status) by the time of appointment.
• Applicants must be in good academic standing and enrolled in medical school.
• Applications are considered on a rolling basis.

• Hybrid (subject to change at the discretion of the hiring department)
