Research Engineer Job Description

Your Role: As a Research Engineer at Cargill, you’ll contribute to meaningful work by developing and implementing simulation and optimization models that improve the efficiency and sustainability of the food supply chain. This role presents the opportunity to work on projects that directly impact the global community, bringing innovation and impactful solutions to the forefront.

Key Accountabilities:
• Develop and deploy simulation and optimization models to improve the sustainability of the food supply chain from farm to fork and enhance processes for bio-based products.
• Utilize various modeling techniques to generate solutions for yield, efficiency, and throughput improvements.
• Lead projects and coordinate tasks with other team members.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and project managers to visualize and transform data.
• Present validated results and actionable recommendations to stakeholders.
• Independently solve complex issues, escalating more complex problems as needed.

Requirements:
• Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related field, graduating between December 2024 – May 2025.
• Completion of the Cargill R&D internship program.
• Willingness and ability to relocate to Wayzata, MN.
• 2+ years of related work experience (including graduate research).
• Experience with object-oriented programming frameworks (Python, Java, C++, C#).
• Experience with chemical process modeling and simulation.
• Strong communication skills (written and oral).
• Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and teams.

Preferred Qualifications:
• PhD in Chemical Engineering or related field.
• Experience with commercial simulation and optimization software like AspenPlus, Aspen Custom Modeler, gPROMS, AnyLogic, etc.
• Experience in chemical kinetics, fermentation, or metabolic modeling.
• Experience developing models in steady-state simulation, dynamic simulation, discrete event simulation, agent-based modeling, nonlinear programming, or mixed-integer linear programming.
