Job Description:

This is a Research Engineer internship at Lockheed Martin’s Space Systems (SSL) facility in Cherry Hill, NJ. The role is for an emerging engineering generalist, with daily responsibilities varying based on program needs. The company values flexibility, allowing interns to pursue research interests and explore different areas within the lab. The position requires the ability to obtain a security clearance (US Citizenship required).

Possible Responsibilities:

Software Development: Design, code, and test software for advanced receivers, transmitters, antennas, and jam/anti-jam systems (digital and RF/analog).
Data Engineering: Architect and implement data engineering pipelines for automated analysis of machine learning, sensor processing, and target tracking research prototypes using large datasets.
RF Processing and Target Tracking: Utilize fundamental principles to analyze, debug, and integrate relevant software.
Research Project Leadership: Lead and/or support research projects to develop innovative solutions for novel problems.
Field Testing: Participate in large-scale field tests of systems in various environments (ground, sea, air).
Business Development Support: Contribute to acquiring new business by developing modern solutions for customer needs.

Basic Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in a B.S. degree program (accredited university) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Experience in one or more of the following areas:
• Software development (C, C++, preferred)
• FPGAs and digital design (Xilinx preferred)
• Digital signal processing (software and/or FPGA)
• Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.

Desired Skills:

Software/Algorithms: Designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines; knowledge of modern wireless communication techniques and protocols; familiarity with machine learning algorithms and pipelines.
Embedded/Hardware: Experience with RF test equipment; kernel/driver development; embedded C and/or C++ development; Software-Defined Radios; RF circuit design; working knowledge of MATLAB.
Research: Ability to develop novel solutions; leading research in cutting-edge technologies.
General: Awareness of customer mission areas (EW, ESM, SIGINT); radar signal processing; digital signal processing (software and/or FPGA); system administration experience (Ubuntu and/or RedHat preferred).

Security Clearance: A government security clearance is required; US Citizenship is mandatory. The clearance level is Secret.
