A Taste of What You’ll Do (Role & Responsibilities)
This internship offers a unique opportunity to engage in groundbreaking Research & Development projects, gaining invaluable hands-on expertise across various winery operations. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, winemaking, and engineering, to execute innovative technology projects, particularly during the critical harvest season. This role is designed to enhance your skills and contribute significantly to a world-class research and manufacturing organization within a diverse and inclusive team.
Internship Placements:
Interns will be placed in one of two key locations:
• Modesto-Based Interns:
• Assist in the development and scaling up of new technologies for the Winery.
• Manage a portion of ongoing development projects.
• Gain hands-on experience in either a laboratory or production environment.
• An excellent opportunity to build a strong skill base for future employment or graduate studies.
• Livingston-Based Interns:
• Assist in all aspects of small-lot wine production at Livingston’s research wineries (600-gallon scale).
• Contribute to the production of over 500 table, sparkling, and dessert wines each season.
• Experience the entire winemaking process hands-on, from grape crush to bottling.
• Support statewide research programs and work with grapes from diverse California winegrowing regions.
• Gain experience with a wide variety of wine styles and types (white & red table, sparkling & dessert wines).
• Work with dozens of grape varieties and learn a broad range of processing and winemaking methods.
What You’ll Need (Required Qualifications)
To be considered for this internship, candidates must meet the following criteria:
• Education:
• Currently enrolled at a college or university, OR have obtained, a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree in a program within the School of Life Science or School of Agriculture Science.
• Note: Business or social sciences degrees (e.g., ag business, psychology) are not eligible for this internship.
• Driver’s License & Transportation:
• Required to have a valid driver’s license, a safe driving record, and reliable vehicle (if applicable) at the time of hire.
• Successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check to confirm a history of safe and responsible driving.
• If needed, obtain the appropriate state driver’s license based on the position’s location within 30 days of hire.
• Reliable transportation to and from work is essential.
• Physical Requirements:
• Required to lift and move up to 40 lbs when necessary.
• Required to work at heights of 50 feet, such as on tops of tanks inspecting wine surfaces, when necessary.
• Availability:
• Required availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
• Available for the entire duration of this internship program (July – December 2026).
• Age: Required to be 18 years or older.
