Job Description: Research & Development Intern

This internship is a research and development role within Humacyte’s New Product Development Team based in Durham, NC (onsite, not remote). The intern will assist with ongoing assignments and new projects under the guidance of a mentor. The work will involve collaboration with scientists and engineers on projects designed to provide hands-on research experience and contribute to Humacyte’s regenerative medicine pipeline.

Essential Functions:

• Support new product development projects with technical and organizational assistance.
• Conduct laboratory research using biomaterial and biomechanical techniques to design, develop, and optimize platforms for evaluating the biomechanical properties of vascular grafts.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, ensure adherence to safety protocols, and manage laboratory supplies.
• Assist with experimental design, data collection, and statistical interpretation of research results.
• Present research findings at team and department meetings.
• Learn new skills and support projects as needed.

Experience & Qualifications:

• Current undergraduate or graduate student in a science or engineering field (biology, biochemistry, biomedical engineering preferred).
• Prior laboratory research experience is highly preferred.
• Familiarity with biomaterials, tissue engineering, and cardiovascular biology concepts and techniques (biomaterial characterization, assay development, image analysis, prototype design, 3D printing, computational modeling/programming, statistical analysis).
• Experience with laboratory research projects, data analysis, and presentation of results is required.
• Biomechanical testing experience is highly desired.
• Experience designing and developing research platform prototypes is highly desirable.
• Experience with data analysis, graphical display, and statistical methods is a plus.
• Image processing, computational programming, or modeling experience is a plus.
• Experience writing and presenting scientific reports, technical specifications, and standard operating procedures is desirable.
• Physical requirements include sitting, standing for extended periods, and occasionally lifting up to 20 pounds.
• Familiarity with cardiovascular biology, regenerative medicine, biomaterials, and tissue engineering is desirable.
