Job Title: Renewables Project Development Intern

Department Focus: NYPA Renewables Team

The primary focus of the Renewables department is to develop and acquire new renewable energy projects. These projects are crucial for supporting NYPA’s strategic objectives and aligning with New York State’s ambitious renewable energy targets. The Intern will play a vital role in supporting the NYPA Renewables team across all facets of project and business development.

About the Summer Developmental Internship Program

This is a paid 10-week Summer Developmental Internship program designed to provide comprehensive professional growth. Running from June 2 to August 7, 2026, the program offers invaluable on-the-job experience within the dynamic energy industry. Interns will benefit from professional development workshops, direct exposure to executives, and significant networking opportunities, all designed to build a solid foundation for a successful future career.

Role Summary: Renewables Project Development Intern

As a Renewables Project Development Intern, you will directly support the NYPA Renewables team in their efforts to expand the state’s renewable energy portfolio. Your contributions will be critical in various aspects of project and business development, including but not limited to data gathering, conducting technical and economic due diligence, performing market intelligence research, and assisting with general business operations. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to New York State’s clean energy future and NYPA’s strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Participation and Analysis: Actively participate in department-specific projects, contributing to analytical tasks and research methods, while simultaneously learning fundamental project management skills.
  • Business Solution Development: Support the team in developing innovative business solutions and strategies that directly contribute to achieving NYPA’s ambitious VISION2030 strategic goals, particularly in the renewables sector.
  • Industry Research: Conduct in-depth research on emerging industry trends, cutting-edge technologies, and best practices within the renewable energy sector to contribute to the continuous improvement and innovation of NYPA’s programs.
  • Ad-Hoc Projects: Undertake other projects as assigned, with tasks varying based on the specific focus areas and immediate needs of the Renewables team, offering a diverse range of experiences.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Microsoft Office Proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, with a particular emphasis on Excel (for data analysis and modeling), PowerPoint (for presentations), and Outlook (for professional communication).
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling clear and effective interaction with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Organizational & Multi-tasking Skills: Strong organizational skills coupled with the ability to effectively manage multiple competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Teamwork & Independence: Proven ability to work both independently on assigned tasks and collaboratively as an integral part of a dynamic team.
  • Customer Service: A commitment to providing positive and professional customer service for both internal colleagues and external stakeholders.

Education, Experience, and Certifications:

  • Educational Enrollment: Enrollment in an associate’s, undergraduate, or graduate program at an accredited college or university is required.
  • Eligibility: Recent graduates are NOT eligible for our Developmental Internship program. Applicants must be currently enrolled students.
  • Work Authorization: Must be legally eligible to work in the United States for the entire duration of the internship, from June 2 to August 7, 2026.

Compensation:

The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The hourly rate for this position is determined by the intern’s level of education at the time the internship program begins:

  • Sophomore: $17.50 per hour
  • Junior: $21.50 per hour
  • Senior (or May 2027 graduate): $21.50 per hour
  • Current Graduate/Law Student: $24.50 per hour
