Job Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) – ICU

Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) – ICU is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients within the Intensive Care Unit. Key responsibilities include monitoring hemodynamic status, administering medications, performing thorough assessments, and collaborating closely with the interdisciplinary care team. The RN is expected to ensure optimal patient outcomes by strictly adhering to clinical protocols and safety guidelines, while also maintaining effective communication with both patients and their families.

This specific position is part of the Flexible Solutions program, which offers a temporary employment opportunity. Employees in this program commit to working a minimum of 36 hours per week (typically across 3-12-hour shifts) for a 12-week period, receiving a special Flexible Solutions Program rate of pay.

Key Program Detail – Floating Requirement:
The RN may be required to float between different units on assigned shifts. This can include being assigned duties typically performed by a Tech (CNA), Monitor Tech, or even Charge Nurse, if necessary, to ensure adequate patient care. All floating assignments and patient care duties are strictly based on the RN’s skill set and experience. Rates and specific program details may vary by facility.

Essential Functions (Detailed Responsibilities):

Direct and Indirect Patient Care: Provides comprehensive care in a critical care setting, including hemodynamic monitoring and the management of critically ill patients.
Medication Administration: Administers medications, meticulously monitors patients for potential side effects, and promptly responds to any adverse events.
Comprehensive Assessments: Conducts thorough patient assessments, including head-to-toe assessments, detailed pain assessments, and ongoing reassessments.
Care Plan Development: Develops and implements individualized care plans tailored to each patient’s specific condition and their response to treatment.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Works closely with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare providers to optimize the overall patient care.
Patient and Family Education: Educates patients and their families regarding treatment plans, medication regimens, and discharge instructions to ensure continuity of care.
Emergency Response: Participates actively in emergency response and crisis management situations, including Code Blue and Rapid Response calls.
Procedure Assistance: Assists in various invasive procedures, such as central line insertions and arterial line placements.
Safety and Infection Control: Adheres strictly to infection control protocols and actively maintains a safe environment for both patients and staff.
Documentation: Accurately and timely documents all patient care activities, assessments, and interventions in the electronic medical record (EMR).

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations:

Advanced Clinical Knowledge: Possesses advanced clinical knowledge specifically in critical care nursing and emergency response.
Communication Skills: Demonstrates strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective interaction.

Technical Proficiency: Proficient in using electronic medical records (EMR) and operating various medical equipment.

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform extended periods of standing, walking, and other physical activity.

Qualifications:

Education:

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN): Required.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN): Preferred.

Licenses/Certifications:

Current RN License: Required in the state of practice or compact state.
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification: Required within the timeframe specified by facility policy.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification: Required within the timeframe specified by facility policy.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification: Preferred.
De-escalation Training: Required.

Experience:

Acute Care Setting: Minimum of six (6) months of experience in an acute care setting preferred.
