Job Description: Registered Nurse (RN) – ICU (Flexible Solutions Program)

This position is for a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The role involves providing comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients.

Job Summary Details:

The RN – ICU is responsible for:
Monitoring hemodynamic status.
Administering medications.
Performing patient assessments.
Collaborating with the interdisciplinary care team.
Ensuring optimal patient outcomes by adhering to clinical protocols and safety guidelines.
Maintaining effective communication with patients and their families.

This specific position falls under the Flexible Solutions program, which offers a temporary opportunity. Employees in this program commit to working a minimum of 36 hours per week (typically 3-12-hour shifts) for a 12-week commitment period. A special “Flexible Solutions Program rate of pay” applies.

Key aspects of the Flexible Solutions program include:
• The employee may be required to float between various units on assigned shifts.
• Floating assignments might include being assigned tech (CNA), Monitor Tech, or charge nurse duties if needed to ensure adequate patient care provision.
• All floating and patient care assignments are always based on the RN’s skill set and experience.
• Rates and specific details of the program may vary by facility.

Essential Functions:

The core responsibilities of the RN – ICU include:
• Providing direct and indirect patient care in a critical care setting.
• Performing hemodynamic monitoring and management of critically ill patients.
Administering medications, monitoring for side effects, and responding to adverse events.
• Conducting comprehensive assessments, including head-to-toe, pain, and reassessments.
Developing and implementing individualized care plans based on patient condition and response to treatment.
Collaborating with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare providers to optimize patient care.
Educating patients and families on treatment plans, medication regimens, and discharge instructions.
Participating in emergency response and crisis management, such as code blue and rapid response situations.
Assisting in invasive procedures, including central line insertions and arterial line placements.
Adhering to infection control protocols and maintaining a safe environment for patients and staff.
Documenting patient care activities, assessments, and interventions accurately and timely in the electronic medical record (EMR).

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations:

Candidates for this role are expected to possess:
Advanced clinical knowledge in critical care nursing and emergency response.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks and effectively manage multiple responsibilities.
Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) and medical equipment operation.
• Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to patient-centered care.
Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform extended periods of standing, walking, and physical activity.

Qualifications:

Education:
Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) is required.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.

Licenses/Certifications:
Current RN license in the state of practice or compact state is required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification is required within the timeframe specified by facility policy.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification is required within the timeframe specified by facility policy.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification is preferred.
De-escalation Training is required.

Experience:
• A minimum of six (6) months of experience in an acute care setting is preferred.
