R&D Intern – Hershey, PA
This is a unique opportunity to work within the Research & Development team at the Hershey Company’s Technical Center. The R&D team focuses on:
• Evaluating new technologies and ingredients: This involves identifying ways to enhance current processes and products.
• Developing new product opportunities: This includes researching new discoveries, creating prototypes, and scaling up for commercialization.
As an R&D Intern, you’ll:
• Contribute to project goals: You will be involved in projects and work both independently and as part of various teams.
• Collaborate with diverse teams: You will interact with scientists, product developers, marketing professionals, consumer researchers, and management.
• Gain experience in different areas: The internship offers exposure to various R&D disciplines, including product development, technical front-end innovation, process excellence, and sensory sciences.
• Develop key skills: The role demands leadership, problem-solving, data analysis, and presentation skills.
Responsibilities:
• Experimental Design & Execution: You will carry out experimental designs, perform experiments, and analyze data.
• Product Development: You will utilize benchtop development and prototype evaluation techniques.
• Pilot Scale Operations: You will execute experiments using pilot scale equipment.
Qualifications:
• Education: You must be a junior or senior pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Processing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science, Ag and Biological Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
• GPA: Minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.
• Experience: Prior internships with relevant experience are highly valued.
• Skills:
• Strong interest in hands-on work and applying scientific principles.
• Highly motivated and comfortable with laboratory and pilot plant equipment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Demonstrated problem-solving and evaluation skills.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Open to change and adaptable to different environments.
• Reliable transportation is required.
