Job Description: R&D Engineer Intern (Electrophysiology)

Department: Electrophysiology (EP)
Location: Arden Hills, MN
Duration: May – August 2025 (flexible dates)

Job Summary:

As an R&D Engineering Intern at Boston Scientific, you will contribute to the design and development of next-generation medical devices used in the treatment of heart rhythm disorders. The Electrophysiology unit focuses on three treatment options: pulsed field ablation, cryoablation, and radiofrequency. The work environment emphasizes collaboration within a cross-functional team and provides opportunities for professional growth and skill development.

Examples of Intern Projects:

Designing, fabricating, and testing prototype devices based on clinical feedback.
Analyzing large clinical databases to inform device design and procedural techniques.
Observing and analyzing live and recorded clinical procedures to develop relevant test methods.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Rising junior or senior (graduation between December 2025 – June 2027), graduating senior (May/June 2025) continuing to graduate school, or current graduate student. Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science. Authorization to work in the US without restriction.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with pre-clinical work, effective communication skills, a passion for learning new technologies, and lab experience.

Compensation:

The salary range is $42,120 – $71,552. Actual compensation will depend on experience, education, and other factors. Benefits include corporate housing/relocation assistance or a living stipend (eligibility required), half-day Fridays, access to a fitness center, and various social and professional development events. Variable compensation (e.g., overtime, shift differential, annual bonus) may also apply depending on the role.
