Intern, Quantum Algorithms and Compilation | PsiQuantum
The Tone:
This is an internship at PsiQuantum, likely located in Palo Alto, CA. PsiQuantum is building the first useful quantum computers, focusing on million-qubit, fault-tolerant quantum systems using silicon photonics technology. This role is crucial for developing and optimizing the quantum algorithms and compilation needed to make these advanced systems commercially valuable and solve real-world challenges.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Development: Develop quantum algorithms to solve impactful problems in areas like chemistry, drug design, materials science, and fluid dynamics.
• Optimization: Optimize ubiquitous subroutines used in fault-tolerant quantum algorithms for improved performance.
• Compilation: Compile quantum algorithms to logical gate sets, translating high-level algorithms into machine-executable instructions.
• Incorporation: Incorporate architecture-aware optimizations to enhance the efficiency and practicality of quantum algorithms.
• Estimation: Estimate the quantum resources required for various applications and algorithmic implementations.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Currently studying for, or completed a postgraduate degree (Master’s or PhD) related to quantum algorithms, quantum circuit compilation, fault tolerance, or another aspect of quantum computing OR 5+ years working professionally in one of these fields.
• Experience: Experience with programming languages such as Python and collaborative software development tools like Git.
• Skills: A creative and adaptable approach to problem solving, and an ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative team environment.
• Bonus: Prior work in the field of fault-tolerant quantum algorithms and compilation is preferred, and essential enthusiasm for quantum computing.
