Job Description: Quantitative Research Intern

Overview
As a Quantitative Research Intern at Susquehanna, you will engage in projects that mirror the responsibilities of full-time employees, allowing you to gain practical experience in quantitative finance. The internship includes a comprehensive education program and direct interaction with mentors who are leaders in their field, enabling you to build a strong foundational knowledge. A core component of the role is the opportunity to develop and build alphas on an actual trading strategy, contributing directly to the firm’s operations.

What You Can Expect (Key Responsibilities and Learning Opportunities)

Modelling: You will apply advanced techniques, including probability theory, statistical analysis, and machine learning, to analyze market behavior and generate predictive models aimed at creating profitable trading signals (alphas).
Execution: You will design and implement strategies for executing your modelling ideas, simulating real-world competitive trading scenarios.
Evaluation: You will be responsible for backtesting your quantitative ideas using extensive historical market data, rigorously evaluating their performance, and revising strategies based on your findings.
Breadth: The internship offers a broad exposure to all facets of quantitative work within the finance industry and different operational areas of Susquehanna’s business.
Education: You will participate in a structured and comprehensive education program, complemented by personalized mentorship from seasoned professionals to significantly accelerate your professional growth in quantitative finance.

What We’re Looking For (Qualifications)

Educational Background: Candidates should be PhDs (in their penultimate or final year) from quantitative fields such as Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Operations Research, or Economics.
Analytical Prowess: Demonstrated ability as an analytical problem-solver with excellent logical reasoning skills and a strong passion for transforming complex data into actionable decisions.
Communication Skills: Clear and effective communication abilities are essential for thriving in a fast-paced and highly collaborative work environment.
Programming Proficiency: Comfort and experience in processing and analyzing large data sets using Python are required. Experience with C++ (or another low-level language) is considered a significant advantage.
Strategic Thinking: Demonstrated interest in strategic games and/or competitive activities is highly valued, indicating a propensity for strategic problem-solving.
Personal Attributes: Highly self-motivated and quick to learn, with the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-moving environment.
