Job Description

About SpaceX:

SpaceX was founded on the belief that a future where humanity explores the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we don’t. The company is actively developing technologies to make this a reality, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars. SpaceX designs and manufactures its products in-house, including those for its ambitious Starlink program.

Job Description: Quality Systems Engineer (Starlink Aviation)

Starlink is SpaceX’s program to provide global high-quality internet access via a constellation of thousands of low earth orbit (LEO) satellites launched using Falcon 9 reusable rockets. The program involves developing millions of devices for end-users to connect to these satellites. These products (Starlink dishes, Wi-Fi routers, power supplies, and accessories) are entirely designed and manufactured by SpaceX.

This role requires hands-on involvement, interaction with multiple technical disciplines, and contribution to Starlink’s global success. The Quality Systems Engineer will focus on continually improving the quality management system and ensuring compliance with AS9100 and FAA Part 21 procedures.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain the quality management system for Starlink Aviation.
• Provide management system training and guidance to SpaceX management, departments, and internal customers to build, implement, and improve policies, procedures, and systems meeting SpaceX business objectives and ensuring compliance with customer requirements and industry standards.
• Assess SpaceX Starlink Aviation business processes, systems, and products through an internal audit program to ensure compliance with customer requirements, SpaceX procedures and policies, and ISO 9001/AS9100 standards.
• Utilize corrective and preventive action processes to address compliance non-conformances and drive management system improvements.
• Initiate change requests for management system procedures, policies, and internal audit checklists and lead implementation efforts.
• Support internal audits, vendor/supplier audits, and audits from external parties.
• Support FAA hardware and installation conformities.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a STEM discipline.
• 1+ years of experience in mechanical or electrical product design, testing, or manufacturing (internship or extracurricular experience is applicable).

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Thorough knowledge and experience with AS9100 and FAA Part 21.
• ASQ-CQA-RAB certified lead auditor or training with hands-on implementation and assessment experience.
• Intimate knowledge of manufacturing processes and associated products and/or the ability to quickly work towards achieving this.
• Experience with quality tools including root cause and corrective action, QMS and process auditing, and statistical analysis of quality metrics.
• Working knowledge of SQL and the ability to construct and/or maintain Tableau metrics.
• Strong technical writing skills and the ability to communicate effectively with management, technical teams, and all organizations within the business, along with strong problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently with a strong work ethic, be innovative, detail-oriented, possess initiative, be positive, and be people-oriented.

Additional Requirements:

• Ability to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
• Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
