Purchasing Agent | D.R. Horton

The Tone:
This is a role for a Purchasing Agent within the Purchasing Department at D.R. Horton, Inc., the largest homebuilder in the U.S. Founded in 1978, D.R. Horton is a publicly traded company engaged in the construction and sale of high-quality homes designed principally for the entry-level and first-time move-up markets. The company also provides mortgage financing and title services. This position is vital for managing the bidding process, controlling costs, and maintaining accurate budgets to support the company’s extensive homebuilding operations, ensuring efficient and successful project execution.

The TL;DR

• Mission: To accurately bid on new projects, maintain scopes of work, track blueprints and design changes, and manage costs and budgets effectively throughout the project lifecycle.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Solicit competitive bids for new projects and thoroughly pre-qualify subcontractors to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness.
• Establish, track, and continuously monitor option costs and their associated sales prices to maintain financial alignment.
• Maintain and regularly update current project budgets, which includes inputting the original direct costs accurately.
• Process and spread revised bids efficiently, securing the necessary approvals for any subsequent price increases.
• Prepare detailed direct costs analysis and variance reports for review, and execute lot starts with final proofing of all unit costs.

The Must-Haves
• Background: A Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience: One to two years of related experience and/or training, ideally within a purchasing, cost management, or homebuilding context.

* Bid solicitation and evaluation
* Subcontractor pre-qualification processes
* Budget maintenance and cost analysis
* Tracking blueprints and design changes
* Cost variance reporting and approval procurement
