Public Accounts Auditor 1 | Kentucky Auditor of Public Accounts
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at the Kentucky Auditor of Public Accounts, with a hybrid work model primarily located in the Rowan, Fleming, Lewis, Carter, Elliott, and Greenup counties. The Kentucky Auditor of Public Accounts ensures public resources are protected, accurately valued, properly accounted for, and effectively used to improve the quality of life for residents across the Commonwealth. This office conducts independent audits and reviews of state and local government entities. Employees directly contribute to making Kentucky’s government more effective, efficient, and responsive to the needs of its communities by promoting transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct in public service.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Audit: Perform entry-level audit procedures on local and state government records under direct supervision.
• Examination: Conduct audits of fiscal courts and county officials primarily within the assigned region (Local Branch E).
• Development: Gain valuable experience by learning fundamental techniques and principles related to governmental accounting and auditing standards.
• Documentation: Prepare electronic work papers and contribute to audit comment development.
• Collaboration: Work effectively as part of a team, accepting feedback from peers and supervisors, while exercising sound judgment and maintaining confidentiality.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree from a college or university, including twenty semester hours or thirty quarter hours in accounting. This is an entry-level position.
• Experience: None required. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license for employment.
• Skills:
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to problem-solve through critical and creative thinking.
• Self-motivation and initiative to meet established timeframes.
