Psychiatry Department at BJH
The Psychiatry department at Barnes-Jewish Hospital is staffed by passionate and knowledgeable professional healthcare providers. It includes three inpatient Psychiatric units and an Outpatient ECT (Electroconvulsive Therapy) service. The department prioritizes a safe, patient-centered approach to psychiatric care, delivering high-quality services through various modalities such as group activity and music therapies, one-to-one care when needed, and an interdisciplinary team approach within state-of-the-art patient care units.
The inpatient units collectively have a total of 46 beds and are categorized into:
• Intensive Psych unit: Focuses on caring for acutely ill patients.
• Psychiatric Medicine unit: Offers a unique environment combining medical and psychiatric care.
• Geriatric unit: Dedicated to the elderly psychiatric population.

Job Description (Psychiatric Patient Care Role)
Role Purpose
The individual in this role is primarily responsible for performing necessary services related to the personal needs, comfort, and treatment of psychiatric patients. This work is carried out under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Responsibilities
• Patient Hygiene and Activity: Assists patients with daily hygiene, including providing personal care direction, aids with physical activity, and ensures patients’ nutritional needs are met. All these activities require proper documentation.
• Direct Patient Care Implementation: Delivers direct patient care tasks as instructed and supervised by a nurse.
• Assistance with Procedures: Supports nurses during patient admissions and discharges, and assists nurses and doctors with various treatments, procedures, and examinations.
• Clerical Tasks: Performs general administrative and clerical duties as required.
• Specimen Collection: Collects and records specimens, including performing phlebotomy (drawing blood).
Minimum Requirements
• Education: High School Diploma or GED.
• Supervisor Experience: No prior supervisory experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience: Preferred experience as a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant), MHT (Mental Health Technician), Nurse Assistant, or PCT (Patient Care Technician).
• Education: An Associate’s Degree is preferred.
• Experience: 2-5 years of relevant experience is preferred.
Additional Information About The Role
• Sign-On Bonus: The position is eligible for a $500 Sign-On Bonus.
• Benefits: The role is Benefits Eligible.
• Hours: This is a part-time position requiring 24 Hours Per Week.
• Shift: The primary shift is Nights, from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM.
• Rotations: The role includes both a Holiday Rotation and a Weekend Rotation.
