New Product Introductions Project Management Internship (Hybrid)
This twelve-week summer internship is offered to undergraduate and graduate students, with both onsite and fully remote options in the US. Interns receive a competitive salary and a housing stipend for those relocating to Illinois for onsite internships.
Responsibilities:
• Learn and Assist:
• Learn how to create manufacturing plans with guidance from senior Project Management Professionals (NPMs).
• Participate in developing process development schedules, checklists, and design for assembly feedback.
• Assist in developing and implementing assembly process documents, transferring them to NPI Manufacturing Teams at all plants.
• Contribute to developing and implementing efficient assembly methods, ensuring they are production-ready.
• Learn to identify risks in product development, document them, and communicate them to stakeholders.
• Shadow NPMs in NPI meetings with relevant project team members.
• Learn to work with manufacturing plants, including potential travel to Mexico for onsite visits, to ensure all Operations and Manufacturing Engineering processes are production-ready.
• Learn to track key project tasks and milestones related to new product manufacturing and drive corrective actions if goals are at risk.
• Participate in:
• Setting up and executing prototype builds for new products.
• Applying Design for Manufacturing/Assembly principles.
• Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis efforts to guarantee a no-defect production methodology.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Education: Working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Project/Product Management, Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering.
• Knowledge:
• Basic knowledge of project documentation (schedules, drawings, reports, project files).
• Classroom knowledge of Design for Manufacturing/Assembly (DfM/DfA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Lean, and Six-Sigma is helpful.
• Working knowledge of basic project management software: MS Office Suite (Project, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Skills:
• Fluent in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Spanish or Mandarin language communication skills are a plus.
• Ability to follow standard instructions, practices, and procedures in analyzing situations or data.
• Experience:
• Begins working on projects with a limited scope, focusing on specific tasks.
• Works under close supervision of more senior NPMs.
• Has a basic understanding of core processes relevant to production launch (manufacturing process documentation, material availability, sourcing needs, etc.).
