Job Description: Project Management Intern (Signal Portfolio Group)
Amtrak offers a Project Management Internship within its Signal Portfolio group. This internship provides foundational project management experience within a real-world rail industry setting. Interns will:
• Support Project Teams: Contribute to project status reporting, documentation, and process adherence to meet audit requirements and company standards.
• Maintain Documentation: Create and update essential project documents, including organizational charts, distribution lists, logs, schedules, requirements documents, budgets, and reports.
• Coordinate Project Logistics: Manage project calendars, events, meetings, materials, and equipment.
• Disseminate Information: Reproduce and distribute project documents and reports.
• Track and Report: Monitor project budgets and schedules.
• Maintain Artifacts: Develop and maintain project management artifacts according to Amtrak standards and regulations.
• Data Management: Collect, consolidate, and cleanse project performance data from multiple sources.
• Collaboration: Work closely with project/program managers, stakeholders (department leaders, business analysts, functional leads), and team members.
Essential Functions: The intern will support the Signal Portfolio group by focusing on the tasks outlined above, contributing directly to project success and data integrity.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Actively pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree at an accredited institution in Business, Data Science, Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Transportation), or Construction Management/Project Management.
• At least one year of completed undergraduate studies (sophomore level or above).
• Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical Engineering
• Strong communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, MS Project)
• Junior status or above
Compensation: The hourly rate ranges from $17.50 to $35.00, depending on factors such as school year and program of study. Interns also receive Amtrak rail pass privileges and one PTO day per academic year. The Summer 2025 internship program runs from May 19th to August 8th, 2025.
