Austin Commercial is seeking interns for its Construction Engineering Internship Program. This program is designed to provide interns with intensive, real-world, hands-on jobsite experience, working directly with seasoned construction professionals on Austin’s commercial construction projects. The program has been recognized for its quality, ranking as one of the Top 100 Internship Programs of 2024 presented by WayUp and Yello!

Types of Paid Internships Offered:
Austin Commercial offers paid internships across various semesters:
Fall 2025 – Paid internship program during the fall semester.
Spring 2026 – Paid internship program during the spring semester.
Summer 2026 – This is a paid 12-week full-time internship program that will start on Monday, May 18, 2026, and run through Friday, August 7, 2026.

Interns may be placed in one of Austin Commercial’s key operational areas:
• Texas (Austin/Dallas-Fort Worth/Houston)
• Arizona (Phoenix Area)
• Florida (Orlando Area)
• Utah (Salt Lake City, Area)

• Have a hands-on, career-enhancing experience on heavy civil construction projects.

Duties as a “Project Intern”:
As an employee-owner hired for an internship, the title will be “Project Intern,” and duties may include:
• Processing submittals by reviewing, stamping, filing, and distributing documentation.
• Sending Requests for Information (RFIs) to architects and engineers.
• Maintaining and updating concrete, rebar, RFI, and plan logs.
• Assisting in resolving problems arising from construction plans and specifications.
• Establishing control points and lines using field instruments such as levels, theodolites, and total stations.
• Locating embeds in the slab and verifying their positions according to approved shop drawings.
• Assisting in locating structural openings and establishing vertical control for the structure.
• Locating various other items in the field, such as curbs and inlets.
• Managing documentation, including updating and distributing construction drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and samples.
• Aiding with Quality Control inspections utilizing BIM 360 field onsite.
• Verifying pre-pour checklists and checking proper formwork framing/shoring installation as per approved shop drawings.
• Participating in and assisting with weekly safety meetings, including writing meeting minutes, as requested.
• Leading project orientation and maintaining relevant logs.
• Assisting with the maintenance of project look-ahead schedules.
• Assisting with trade contractor coordination and scheduling.
• Verifying proper construction techniques against plans and specifications, raising concerns, and following through until corrected by the trade.
• Maintaining city inspection records and walking with the Superintendent during inspections.
• Performing other miscellaneous duties as defined by the Project Manager or Superintendent.

Internship Process and Review:
Upon starting, Project Interns will have a preliminary meeting with their supervisor to discuss internship goals, expectations, and desired outcomes. At the completion of the internship, a review will be conducted to communicate successes and learning outcomes. The supervisor will also complete any necessary paperwork required by the Project Intern’s school or university.

Employment Classification and Terms:
• Individuals hired as interns will be classified as Temporary employee-owners, as defined in Policy A-5.
• Temporary employee-owners are not eligible for vacation pay, holiday pay, or any other benefits listed in Policy A-5.
• Interns are expected to adhere to the same policies and procedures as regular, full-time employee-owners, found on AustinNet under People Services, Austin Commercial.
• Interns are expected to work a regularly-scheduled workweek of 40 hours or more.
• Overtime will be paid for any hours exceeding 40 at a rate of one and one-half times the employee-owner’s regular rate.
