Job Description: Project Intern

Title: Project Intern
Location: Projects across Texas
Objective: To provide a hands-on learning experience in commercial construction, contributing to project success and developing future construction professionals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Submittals: Processing submittals, including reviewing, stamping, filing, and distributing.
RFIs: Sending Requests for Information (RFIs) to architects and engineers.
Logs: Maintaining up-to-date logs for concrete, rebar, RFIs, and plans.
Problem Solving: Resolving issues arising from plans and specifications.
Field Work:
• Establishing control points and lines using field instruments (level, theodolite, total station).
• Locating embeds in slabs and verifying locations.
• Assisting in locating openings and establishing vertical control for structures.
• Locating miscellaneous items in the field (curbs, inlets, etc.).
Documentation: Updating and distributing construction drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and samples.
Quality Control: Aiding with quality control inspections using BIM 360 field onsite.
• Verifying pre-pour check lists and checking proper formwork framing/shoring installation per approved shops
Safety: Participating in and aiding with weekly safety meetings, including writing meeting minutes.
Project Orientation: Leading project orientation and maintaining logs.
Scheduling: Assisting with maintaining project look-ahead schedules.
Coordination: Assisting with trade contractor coordination and scheduling.
Compliance: Verifying proper construction techniques per plans and specs, raising concerns, and ensuring corrections.
Inspections: Maintaining city inspection records and accompanying the Superintendent during inspections.
Miscellaneous Duties: Other tasks as assigned by the Project Manager or Superintendent.

Internship Structure:

• Preliminary meeting with supervisor to discuss goals, expectations, and desired outcomes.
• Performance review upon completion of the internship to discuss successes and learning outcomes.
• Supervisor will complete any necessary paperwork for the intern’s school or university.

Employment Status:

• Interns are classified as Temporary employee-owners.
• Temporary employee-owners are not eligible for vacation pay, holiday pay, or other benefits as defined in Policy A-5.
• Expected to adhere to the same policies and procedures as regular, full-time employee-owners.
• Interns are expected to work a regularly-scheduled workweek of 40 hours or more (overtime will be paid for any hours in excess of 40 at a rate one and one-half times the employee-owner’s regular rate).
