Job Description: Project Controls Intern
This internship supports cost estimating, analysis, and control activities, as well as schedule development, maintenance, reporting, and monitoring. The specific responsibilities will vary based on the project size and team, but generally include:
General Project Controls Responsibilities:
• Collecting and verifying the adequacy and completeness of drawings and other scope definition documentation.
• Performing quantity takeoffs from engineering and construction drawings.
• Collecting and tabulating quantity data for comparisons and reconciliations.
• Preparing and presenting cost/schedule information at meetings.
Cost Engineering and Estimating Responsibilities:
• Applying unit rates to quantities and performing cost estimate extensions.
• Assembling and compiling estimate data and preparing portions of budgets.
• Performing tasks related to cost monitoring and control.
• Assisting in collecting and classifying cost data.
Scheduling Responsibilities:
• Assisting in identifying the scope associated with schedule activities.
• Preparing durations for schedule activities.
• Identifying information needs from other disciplines to support assigned activities.
• Reporting schedule deviations.
• Gathering schedule workforce and quantity data for progress and performance reports.
Qualifications:
• Currently enrolled in a four-year Bachelor of Science degree program in Engineering, Engineering Management, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related Business degree.
• Completion of at least one year of undergraduate studies in the above fields.
• Ability to conduct site walkdowns (including climbing ladders, scaffolding, and working in confined spaces).
• Eligibility to work and remain in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.
• Working knowledge of Primavera or Microsoft Project scheduling software, Access, Power BI, and/or Excel.
• Prior internship experience in an engineering, project management, or construction management environment.
• Prior internship or college project experience in estimating, planning and scheduling, budget control, and cost control.
• Basic understanding of technical processes, engineering drawings, and project management practices.
• Ability and willingness to frequently relocate and/or travel to domestic and/or international project sites.
• Demonstrated leadership skills and initiative.
Location: Various permanent Bechtel office locations (with potential for work in Houston, TX or Reston, VA, and various project sites). A 15% salary uplift is provided for positions in New York City or San Francisco (subject to change).
hourly Range: $21.31 – $30.05 (dependent on function, education, experience, and qualifications).
