This is a full-time role for a client of gpac, an award-winning search firm specializing in placing quality professionals across various industries since 1990. The position supports a construction company seeking an early career Project Accountant to manage critical financial activities for multiple large-scale construction projects. This role is ideal for an analytical, organized, and eager-to-learn individual seeking hands-on experience in project financials, job costing, accounts payable/receivable, and general construction accounting, providing a strong foundation for long-term career advancement within the construction accounting space.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Project Support: Provide essential support for project accounting and comprehensive financial activities spanning multiple construction projects.
• Financial Processing: Efficiently process and meticulously track all accounts payable and accounts receivable, including reviewing and accurately coding invoices to the appropriate projects and cost codes.
• Reporting & Analysis: Actively assist with crucial job costing, meticulous project budgeting, detailed financial reporting, and the tracking of project expenses, commitments, and budget variances.
• Account Reconciliation: Reconcile various project accounts, proactively identifying and investigating discrepancies, and contribute to the monthly financial close and reporting processes.
• Collaboration & Documentation: Collaborate closely with Project Managers and Operations teams to ensure the accuracy of all project financials, and assist with change orders, purchase orders, and contract documentation.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a closely related field, demonstrating a foundational understanding of financial principles. The ideal candidate will also possess a strong interest in gaining hands-on experience specifically within project financials, job costing, and construction accounting.
• Experience: Candidates should have 0-2 years of professional accounting or finance experience. Recent graduates with relevant coursework or internships are specifically encouraged to apply for this early career opportunity.
• Skills: Demonstrated strong Excel proficiency is essential for data analysis and financial tracking. Candidates must also exhibit excellent attention to detail, robust organizational skills, and strong written and verbal communication abilities. The role requires self-motivation, a willingness to learn and grow, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively while meeting deadlines.
• Bonus: A Master’s degree is preferred, as is prior internship or coursework experience directly related to accounting, finance, or construction. Any existing construction accounting experience is a significant plus, though not a strict requirement for this early career role.
