Senior Program Manager, Expansion | Waymo

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Waymo, following a hybrid work schedule across US locations. Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company building the Waymo Driver, the world’s most experienced driver, to enhance access to mobility and save lives now lost to traffic crashes. This Senior Program Manager position is essential for leading and executing the company’s international expansion, establishing scalable structures to introduce Waymo into new countries.

• Mission: This person solves the challenge of bringing Waymo’s autonomous driving technology to new countries by owning the critical path for all cross-functional market entry activities.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Program Leadership: Lead international expansion programs, building robust and scalable structures to bring Waymo to more countries.
• Cross-functional Drive: Drive and own the critical path for cross-functional activities into future countries, encompassing vehicle, software, regulatory, compliance, policy, external engagement, and partner readiness.
• Workflow Orchestration: Orchestrate deliverables across internal and external teams, improving workflows and processes where needed.
• Risk Mitigation: Proactively identify and remove business-critical risks and dependencies.
• Stakeholder Alignment: Keep stakeholders informed and aligned, represent programs to senior leadership, and escalate when needed to remove blockers.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Senior-level professional with a holistic understanding of market-entry functions including Product, Engineering, Operations, Legal, Policy, and External Engagement, specifically for international expansion.
• Experience: 7+ years of experience managing highly complex cross-functional programs, coupled with direct experience driving international expansion programs.
• Skills: Demonstrated strong leadership skills, clear verbal and written communication abilities, the capacity to navigate ambiguity and drive critical decision-making, and significant expertise in scaling processes within complex, growing areas.
• Bonus: Expertise in external partner engagement and market expansion strategies, prior expertise within SW program management, experience in the autonomous vehicles or automotive space, proven experience scaling businesses during high-growth phases, direct experience launching products or services in international markets, and proficiency in German or a combination of Spanish and French.
