After School Matters is a Chicago-based nonprofit organization that annually offers after-school and summer programs to nearly 19,000 Chicago high school teens. They provide paid apprenticeships in arts, communications and leadership, sports, and STEM fields, aiming to develop teens’ talents and critical skills. After School Matters operates with an annual budget of approximately $35M and employs approximately 500 staff.
Job Description:
The Program Administration Intern position at After School Matters, is designed to support school staff in maintaining a safe and welcoming program environment, assist with recruitment efforts, and provide logistical support for teen attendance, documents, and payroll. The intern will also act as a liaison, visiting school programs to support instructors with lesson demonstrations, small group work, and one-on-one assistance for teens.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist with in-school recruitment, including teen application assistance and enrollment in Cityspan/CPS ASPEN.
• Gather weekly attendance forms and teen documents to ensure stipend eligibility, entering attendance in Cityspan and/or CPS ASPEN.
• Manage pre/post field trip procedures, including submitting Program Enhancement requests and check requests.
• Serve as a contact for parents regarding programmatic and stipend inquiries.
• Respond to ASM communications within 2 business days.
• Assist High School Connection staff in the classroom, as needed.
• Send reminder messages to teens and parents related to attendance and programming.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the High School Connection coordinator.
Required Qualifications:
• High school degree or equivalency required.
• Cook County residency required.
Skills and Abilities:
• Strong relationships with students to facilitate recruitment.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to troubleshoot in emergencies.
Schedule:
• Part-time: Approximately 16-20 hours per week for 7 weeks.
• Varies according to school programming schedule, Mondays – Fridays 8am – 2:30pm
• Ability to travel to ASM sites as needed
Compensation:
• $18 / per hour
