Job Description: Product Management Internship
Illumio offers a 12-week internship program (starting May 27th or June 23rd, 2025) in Sunnyvale, CA, with a hybrid work model (5 days in office). Relocation assistance is not provided. The program focuses on two distinct projects within Product Management, both concentrating on emerging security areas and offering significant impact on Illumio’s product strategy and market positioning.
Project 1: Mapping MITRE ATT&CK Framework
This project involves defining and surfacing risky patterns that Illumio’s CloudSecure product should highlight for customers based on network path analysis. The intern will:
• Analyze CloudSecure’s capabilities against the MITRE ATT&CK framework to identify covered and uncovered techniques.
• Identify gaps in coverage and propose improvements or integrations with other tools.
• Gain hands-on experience with the MITRE ATT&CK framework.
• Develop key product management skills (market analysis, gap identification, strategic alignment).
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to directly influence product direction.
Project 2: Kubernetes (K8s) Analyzer for Blocking Attacks
This project focuses on analyzing critical Kubernetes security controls for customers and integrating them into Illumio’s product offerings. The intern will:
• Analyze and define critical K8s security controls for customers.
• Explore integrating these controls into Illumio’s product.
• Gain deep understanding of Kubernetes runtime environments (Istio, eBPF, OPA).
• Investigate and leverage open-source technologies to build a security-enhancing solution.
• Experience the full product lifecycle, from concept to production, interacting with engineering, sales, and product development teams.
• Contribute directly to a new feature addressing a growing market need in container security.
Required Experience:
• Full-time enrollment in a Master’s program (Data Analytics, Data Science, or related field) with expected graduation in Winter 2025/Spring 2026.
• Basic Kubernetes and container knowledge.
• Exposure to tools like Istio, eBPF, OPA, Kyverno (a plus).
• Familiarity with product management tools like Jira and Confluence (a plus).
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and detail-oriented skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Passion for learning and continuous improvement.
