The internship program is based in Austin, Texas, down the street from the original Whole Foods Market store. Interns do not get coffee for their supervisors, but instead enjoy free coffee and tea while working on meaningful projects that impact both internal and external stakeholders.
Job Description: Product Management Intern
This internship provides a unique opportunity for students to gain practical experience in the field of Product Management. You will be responsible for:
• Translating business intent, customer needs, and technical direction into clear, concise, and well-documented business requirements or product backlog. This may involve multiple simple applications or a single complex application within a specific technical domain.
• Owning the requirements gathering and refinement process. This includes facilitating sessions for existing or brand-new solutions, documenting decisions, and following up on action items.
• Constantly evaluating and updating requirements or product backlog and acceptance criteria for relevance and clarity.
• Prioritizing development items based on deadlines, business context, and technical need.
• Defining user experience flows and decisions, including success, failure, and error conditions, and partnering with others as needed.
• Partnering with solution architects and development teams to design application architecture, integration points, and other non-functional requirements.
• Acting as a subject matter expert during development to resolve design issues and provide clarity.
• Bridging conversations between customers and development teams using knowledge of complex user journeys and technical integration.
• Conducting acceptance tests of working software against acceptance criteria and providing sign-off or feedback.
• Coordinating with stakeholders, users, and technical teams to plan, execute, and communicate scheduled and unscheduled releases.
Required Skills and Knowledge:
• In-depth knowledge of custom and packaged/SaaS software design tools and development methodologies with the ability to mentor junior team members.
• In-depth knowledge of medium-complexity technical and integration architecture patterns.
• In-depth knowledge of application deployment and support processes and tools.
• Working knowledge of standard software testing and bug reporting tools and techniques.
• Working knowledge of requirements or backlog management software.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate structured information clearly, concisely, and in an organized fashion.
• Collaboration skills to work effectively with others and ensure information flow.
• Adaptability to tailor communication approaches to specific situations and audiences.
• Understanding of Whole Foods Market’s business objectives and the supported region/stores.
• Ability to articulate complex business processes, user journeys, and technical integration within a single business domain.
• Financial understanding to factor business and financial considerations into planning decisions.
• Ability to prioritize projects based on economic or strategic impact.
• Leadership skills to work with others, direct them, and collaborate to ensure project completion.
• Product requirements articulation and ensuring application across product definition and development.
• Collaboration and leadership skills to work with cross-functional engineering and technology partners in product design and development.
• Knowledge of software engineering practices with experience developing software products and technologies.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Current 1st year MBA student
Program Details:
• Paid for 10 weeks, full-time (40 hours/week) between June 2, 2025, and August 8, 2025.
• Based in Austin, Texas and not open to remote candidates at this time.
