Engineering and Data Sciences Internship
This internship program offers a unique opportunity to work with Cargill’s Engineering and Data Sciences team based in Minneapolis, MN. The internship will focus on:
• Process modeling: Applying knowledge of chemical process modeling in an industrial setting.
• Project-based learning: Working on substantive projects that contribute real value to Cargill’s businesses.
• Technical expertise: Developing skills in advanced control, process simulation, linear programming, computational fluid dynamics, statistics, numerical methods, and more.
You will be responsible for:
• Technical contributions: Leading the technical aspects of assigned projects.
• Project ownership: Taking responsibility for the successful execution of projects.
Description
Responsibilities:
• Contribute to one or two core projects within the Engineering and Data Sciences team.
• Apply your chemical process modeling expertise to real-world problems.
• Utilize your programming skills in languages like Fortran, Matlab, Python, Visual Basic, or C/C++.
• Collaborate effectively with team members from diverse backgrounds.
• Demonstrate initiative and resourcefulness in completing tasks.
Currently pursuings:
• Required:
• Education: Currently pursuing a Master’s or PhD in Chemical Engineering or a related field, with graduation expected in December 2025 or later.
• Experience: First principles-based chemical process modeling experience (whole-process or detailed unit operation).
• Technical Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in applied computing, including Chemical Engineering simulation packages and programming languages.
• Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Teamwork: Ability to work effectively in diverse teams.
• Initiative: High degree of initiative and resourcefulness in completing work with limited guidance.
• Availability: Available for a 12-week internship during the summer (May/June – August 2025).
• Location: Geographically flexible and willing to relocate to Wayzata, MN for the internship.
• Preferred:
• GPA: 3.0 GPA or above out of a 4.0 scale.
• Experience: Previous experience or education in conceptual design and/or optimization of chemical manufacturing processes.
• Project experience: Project experience in Process Simulation, Process Control, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Kinetic Modeling, Optimization, or Applied Statistics.
• Knowledge: Broad understanding of process equipment and component physical properties.
