Process Modeling Internship:

This internship is offered within Cargill’s Engineering and Data Sciences team, a fast-paced, growing research group based in Minneapolis, MN, with offices around the world. This team works on a wide range of projects that impact all aspects of Cargill’s operations, from processing grains and oilseeds to optimizing supply chains. They have expertise in advanced control, process simulation, linear programming, computational fluid dynamics, statistics, numerical methods, and more.

The internship program provides students with graduate engineering backgrounds the opportunity to apply their knowledge in an industrial setting. You’ll be assigned to one or two substantive projects, acting as the primary technical contributor with support from the team.

To be considered for this internship, you must:

• Be pursuing a Master’s or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
• Be expected to graduate in December 2025 or later.
• Be able to complete a 12-week internship in the summer (May/June – August 2025).
• Be geographically flexible and willing to relocate to Wayzata, MN for the internship.
• Have experience with first principles-based chemical process modeling.
• Demonstrate proficiency with applied computing (e.g., Chemical Engineering simulation packages or programming languages like Fortran, Matlab, Python, Visual Basic, or C/C++).
• Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Be able to work effectively with diverse teams.
• Exhibit initiative and resourcefulness in completing work independently.

Preferred qualifications:

• GPA of 3.0 or above out of 4.0.
• Experience with conceptual design or optimization of chemical manufacturing processes.
• Previous project experience in Process Simulation, Process Control, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Kinetic Modeling, Optimization, or Applied Statistics.
• Understanding of process equipment and component physical properties.
