Overview
The Primary Care Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) is an intensive 12-month postgraduate training program meticulously designed to prepare Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs) for a successful and fulfilling career in primary care. This program offers a unique opportunity for APP Fellows to train alongside experienced clinicians at DHMC, a distinguished quaternary care facility and Level I trauma center.
The fellowship integrates a structured, competency-based curriculum that combines direct patient care, didactic learning, and mentorship. Fellows will progressively develop confidence and clinical excellence, ultimately moving toward independent practice.
Program Goals & Outcomes
The primary goal of this program is to help participants develop acute and long-range medical and critical-thinking skills essential for building a successful and rewarding career in Primary Care. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be equipped with the ability to:
- Deliver comprehensive, evidence-based care to diverse patient populations of all ages.
- Manage acute, chronic, and preventive health needs effectively in both outpatient and community settings.
- Demonstrate strong clinical reasoning, care coordination, and effective patient communication skills.
Requirements
Prospective candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Education: Graduate of an accredited Master’s degree Physician Assistant program or Advanced Practice Nursing program.
- Certification: Active national certification as a PA-C or NP (Family Nurse Practitioner – FNP preferred).
- Licensure: Eligibility for New Hampshire PA or APRN licensure prior to the program start date.
- DEA Registration: Eligibility for Federal DEA registration.
- Pre-employment Processes: Successful completion of Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center’s standard pre-employment background check, health screening, and credentialing process before matriculation.
How to Apply
The application deadline for this fellowship is February 9, 2026. All required materials must be received to be considered for an initial virtual interview.

- CV/Resume: A current, up-to-date copy of your CV/resume, including school name and GPA. All work and education entries must include dates in a MM/YY format.
- Personal Statement: A brief personal statement (500-1,000 words) describing your interest in pursuing a career in Primary Care.
- Letters of Reference: Two letters of reference on letterhead. These letters can be addressed to the Community and Family Medicine team.
- Special Note: If you are currently enrolled in a PA or NP program, one reference must be from your Program or Medical Director.
