Description: Postsecondary Navigator
This is a full-time salaried position offering benefits. The Postsecondary Navigator plays a crucial role in guiding adult learners through all stages of their academic pursuits, from pre-enrollment and admissions to graduation. The position requires a passionate individual dedicated to supporting adult learners’ success.
Key Responsibilities:
• Individualized Advising: Provide weekly, relational advising meetings, ongoing support, and data monitoring (using Salesforce and other systems) to coach adult learners toward their college degree. Create individualized learning plans that may include recommendations for tutoring, mentoring, and instruction in study skills and time management.
• Financial and Institutional Support: Assist adult learners with navigating institutional back balances and federal student loan defaults.
• Career Development: Work with learners to define career, professional development, and educational goals using a Career Integrated Learner Advising model. Provide information on community and professional referrals to wraparound services and relevant programs.
• Progress Monitoring and Documentation: Track and document the progress of assigned adult learners, identifying strengths and weaknesses to facilitate success.
• Relationship Building: Build strong rapport with adult learners, providing ongoing support throughout their academic and training programs.
• Representation and Outreach: Represent the organization at various events and assist in developing and delivering programs and training for adult learners, providers, and partners. Engage in community outreach and communication about Graduate Philadelphia and its services.
• Needs Assessment and Support: Demonstrate a strong understanding of the needs of diverse populations, including returning citizens, justice-involved individuals, foreign-credentialed individuals, and other nontraditional learners.
• Presentations and Workshops: Conduct presentations and workshops on advising-related topics.
• Collaboration: Partner with college and university representatives and community organizations to gather information and provide learners with the best academic options.
Skills and Currently pursuings:
• High school diploma (required); Bachelor’s degree (preferred)
• 1-2 years of experience in higher education, career development, counseling, non-profit management, adult learning, or a related field (preferred).
• Familiarity with college admissions processes, financial aid, and adult learner resources.
• Familiarity with vocational programs, apprenticeships, internships, externships, and service learning.
• Knowledge of coaching, instructional, and adult learner advising best practices, and mentoring techniques.
• Knowledge of career and education assessments and inventories.
• Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to build strong relationships and communicate effectively with both internal and external audiences.
• Strong desire to help adult learners succeed.
• Proven ability to work with diverse adult learner populations and address diverse needs.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with diverse populations.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Bilingual – Spanish fluency required.
Compensation: $50,000 – $60,000 yearly salary.
