Description: Political Unit Intern (CNN)
This paid internship, located in the DC area, requires regular in-office presence aligned with the intern manager’s schedule. The intern will gain insights into the U.S. political system and CNN’s editorial and production processes, supporting the network’s political coverage.
Key Responsibilities:
• Analyze 2024 election results and data, updating CNN reference materials.
• Track developments within the new administration and Congress.
• Monitor state-level changes in election law.
• Prepare for 2025 general and special elections.
• Monitor live political events for newsgathering purposes.
• Assist with other political coverage as needed.
Currently pursuings:
• Pursuing a career in journalism, writing, or research (preferred).
• Extensive understanding of and interest in political campaigns and U.S. politics (required).
• Detail-oriented, self-motivated, able to multitask, possess a positive attitude, and thrive in fast-paced environments with short deadlines.
• Experience with political data (a plus).
• Active enrollment in an accredited college or university for the internship’s duration (proof required).
• Rising junior or senior (18 years or older) in good academic standing (3.0 GPA or above).
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring visa sponsorship. Student/exchange visas (including F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, J-1, M-1, etc.) are not eligible.
Internship Details:
• Duration: 11 weeks (two options for start/end dates: June 2nd – August 15th or June 9th – August 22nd).
• Hours: 35-40 hours per week (hybrid).
• Compensation: Paid internship with a competitive hourly wage ($19/hour for undergraduate interns).
• Credit: Not required, but documentation for school credit will be provided if desired.
• Relocation: Not provided.
• Interviewing Period: February – mid-April.
