The policy team is responsible for creating and launching new policies, serving as policy experts on cross-functional teams, and consulting on policy implementation. We collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including engineers, sales managers, and legal teams, to achieve consensus on policy issues.

We develop content policies, provide training and support for post-launch policy escalations, and cultivate expertise in areas like online cyberbullying and Internet hate speech.

About the Role

As a Policy Lead, Generative AI and Misinformation, you will play a critical role in shaping Google’s approach to emerging AI technology. You will:

Anticipate policy issues: Analyze and identify emerging risks related to Generative AI, including manipulated media, deepfakes, civics and misinformation, and data privacy, as they relate to Google’s products and technology platforms.
Develop policy recommendations: Create policies and enforcement recommendations to address these emerging AI risks, ensuring user safety, product quality, and privacy.
Lead policy implementation: Lead the development and implementation of content policies for Google products, collaborating with cross-functional teams globally to ensure policy analysis and recommendations consider all perspectives.
Resolve high-profile policy issues: Handle and resolve high-profile policy issues arising from the public, users, and internal stakeholders.
Influence product decisions: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate policy considerations into product decisions and improve user experience.
Set industry standards: Conduct research and set industry standards to increase awareness and understanding of product policies both internally and externally.

This role requires a strong understanding of technology policy, particularly in areas like harmful content, privacy, and AI. You will be reviewing sensitive or graphic content as part of the core role.
