What You’ll Actually Do
• Patrol and Prevent: Patrol assigned areas by car, foot, bicycle, or motorcycle to suppress and prevent crime.
• Investigate Incidents: Conduct initial and follow-up investigations of crimes, accidents, vandalism, and suspicious circumstances.
• Enforce Laws: Make arrests, issue citations, serve subpoenas and warrants, and regulate traffic.
• Respond to Emergencies: Appear at scenes of accidents, disorders, or crimes, administer first aid, and perform crowd control duties.
• Engage with Community: Counsel and educate the community, provide assistance, and emphasize collaborative problem-solving while interacting with diverse populations.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Graduation from high school or equivalent, or a two-year, four-year, or advanced degree from an accredited college or university, with a Basic POST Certificate issued by the State of California.
• Experience: Must currently be employed by a California Law Enforcement Agency, be off probation, and be 21 years of age at the time of application, with a satisfactory driving record.
• Skills: Ability to analyze situations calmly and effectively, write clear and accurate reports, establish positive relationships with diverse groups, interact tactfully with the public and officials, and type 25 words per minute.
• Bonus: English/Spanish bilingual skills are highly desirable.
