Job Description: Planning Student Intern
Placer County Planning Services is seeking a motivated intern to support its Long-Range Planning (LRP) team. This is a hands-on opportunity to contribute to ongoing planning projects, primarily focusing on the General Plan Update.
Responsibilities:
• Assist County staff with the General Plan Update, Placer Legacy, Sustainability Plan, and other LRP projects.
• Conduct research on planning policies and regulations.
• Support community engagement and stakeholder meetings.
• Acquire and organize data.
• Develop public information materials (flyers, brochures, etc.).
• Update and maintain County websites.
Qualifications:
• Students or recent graduates (within one year of graduation) are eligible. Preferred majors include: Geography, Urban Planning, GIS, Public Policy, Architecture, Sustainable Design, City & Regional Planning, Community Development, Environmental Planning, or related fields.
• Demonstrated interest in urban and regional planning.
• Strong writing and attention to detail.
• Proactive, organized, and collaborative work style.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, especially Excel.
• Strong research and analytical skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Flexibility to work on diverse planning projects.
• Proof of enrollment (current students) or graduation (recent graduates) is required.
Compensation and Hours:
• Unclassified, temporary position.
• hourly rate: $16.87 – $21.07 (higher end for specialized skills).
• Maximum 28 hours per week, 1,000 hours per fiscal year.
Conditions of Employment:
• Fingerprint test (Department of Justice).
• Medical examination (including potential drug screening and psychological evaluation).
• Constitutional oath.
• Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal right to work in the U.S.
• Additional requirements may include proof of age, background investigation, bonding, conviction history questionnaire (for law enforcement-related positions), Federal Exclusion List clearance (for certain positions), and credentialing/social security verification (for specific positions).
