Physical Security Systems Engineer | Apex Systems

The Tone:
This is a long-term contract role at Apex Systems, located in Austin, Texas, or Salt Lake City, UT, offering partial remote work with a strong potential for conversion to a permanent position. The engineer will be responsible for supporting, maintaining, and optimizing the physical security technology stack, which includes critical access control, video management, reporting systems, security applications, and all related integrations, ensuring the client’s operations remain secure and efficient for the enterprise.

• Pay: $50–$58 hourly
• Mission: Support, maintain, and optimize the enterprise physical security technology stack, including access control, video management, reporting systems, security applications, and related integrations, while participating in after-hours on-call rotation.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Administer: Administer, support, and troubleshoot Lenel OnGuard access control systems and their integrated subsystems.
• Maintain: Maintain enterprise video management systems (VMS), ensuring their uptime, reliability, and integration with other platforms.
• Optimize: Manage, monitor, and optimize SQL-based databases to ensure data integrity, facilitate reporting, and enhance system performance.
• Resolve: Troubleshoot and resolve end-user issues, support tickets, and escalations in a timely and efficient manner.
• Collaborate: Partner with IT teams on system administration, server support, networking, cybersecurity, and infrastructure dependencies.

The Must-Haves
• Background: A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience is required in physical security systems.
• Experience: 1-4 years of experience in physical security systems engineering, application support, or IT systems support is necessary.
• Skills: Certification and hands-on experience with Lenel OnGuard or similar enterprise access control platforms; familiarity with video management systems such as Milestone, Genetec, or Avigilon; proficiency in SQL, including queries, data management, and working with relational databases; and an understanding of system administration, networking fundamentals, and cybersecurity best practices.
