The engineers at Cisco work with the latest submicron technologies. An ASIC PD engineer contributes to developing and optimizing the physical floorplan and its implementation.
Job Description: Physical Design Engineer Co-op
This co-op position offers the opportunity to gain practical experience in ASIC physical design for Cisco’s optical communication products.
Key Responsibilities:
• Work with Front-End teams to understand the design architecture and ensure optimal physical implementation.
• Perform gate level netlist synthesis (physical synthesis).
• Engage in physical implementation tasks including floorplanning, placement, CTS, and routing.
• Optimize design for power, performance, and area.
• Conduct static timing analysis and signoff closure.
• Execute physical verification and signoff closure.
• Analyze and signoff EMIR.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
• Currently enrolled in a full-time undergraduate program in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field.
• Must be able to be onsite in Maynard, MA two days a week.
• Knowledge of the design cycle from RTL to GDSII.
• Understanding of static timing analysis, timing closure, and design constraints.
• Proficiency in block level synthesis, place and route, timing closure, PnR, and signoff tools and their capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Interest in VLSI design, specifically in ASIC physical design and verification.
• Academic experience with deep submicron CMOS technologies.
• Scripting experience with perl, tcl, python, and/or shell.
• Analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
• Previous internship experience.
