Pharmacy Student Intern | Safeway

The TL;DR

• Location: Various Safeway locations
• Team: Pharmacy teams, supervised by a registered pharmacist or preceptor

What You’ll Actually Do
• Supervision: Operate under the direct guidance and mentorship of a registered pharmacist or designated preceptor, ensuring all duties are performed in full compliance with professional and company standards.
• Dispensing: Meticulously process and accurately fill patient prescriptions, strictly adhering to all applicable laws, regulations, and established company policies and procedures.
• Consultation: Provide comprehensive and knowledgeable advice and consultation to both customers and other healthcare professionals regarding prescription knowledge, appropriate drug therapy, and various health-related products and concerns.
• Clinical Engagement: Actively participate in the full spectrum of clinical pharmacy services, including but not limited to patient counseling, administration of immunizations and vaccinations, Medication Therapy Management (MTM), performance of point-of-care testing, and disease state management.
• Business Growth: Proactively implement company initiatives designed to increase pharmacy profitability and optimize operational efficiency, contributing to the overall success of the department.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited professional pharmacy program.
• Skills:
• Hold a valid state intern license if required by the state of employment.
• Demonstrated ability to readily and positively adapt to changes in schedule specifications and work priorities as business and customer needs demand.
• Proven capacity to cooperate effectively with others and work collaboratively as part of a pharmacy team.
• A strong foundational interest in and aptitude for patient counseling, customer service related to pharmacy, knowledge of over-the-counter medications, immunization and vaccination procedures, Medication Therapy Management (MTM), point-of-care testing, and disease state management.
