Job Description

Job Title: Pharmacy Student (Intern)
Job Summary: The Pharmacy Student (Intern) assists pharmacists in providing comprehensive pharmacy services. This includes the evaluation and input of licensed independent practitioner orders/prescriptions, as well as the technical functions related to drug procurement, preparation, and distribution. All duties are performed under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, marking this as the final phase of the intern’s training.
Expectations: At this level, the intern is expected to be proficient in pharmacy technical functions and possess a strong understanding of pharmacology and medication utilization. An Intern at this stage is also expected to serve as a leader and mentor for other pharmacy Interns and technicians.

Scope / Key Responsibilities: As a Pharmacy Intern, you will learn how to:
• Assist the pharmacist in all phases of drug distribution and monitoring.
• Fill orders and manage inventories for floor stock.
• Refill, exchange, charge, and credit medications.
• Compound IV mixtures according to policy.
• Fill orders and refill and stock medications for all departments and affiliates, including managing automatic dispensing units when assigned.
• Support the clinical functions of the department by assisting the pharmacist in retrieving data, screening profiles, and performing calculations.
• Serve as a backup to other support positions.
• Complete assignments designed to complement the academic learning requirements of pharmacy licensure and practice.
• Promote the mission, vision, and values of SCL Health (now part of Intermountain Health), and abide by service behavior standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Required: Current Student or recent graduate of an accredited College of Pharmacy.
Required: Licensure by the Board of Pharmacy as an Intern.
Preferred: At least six (6) months of hospital pharmacy experience.

Physical Requirements: The role requires various physical activities including Carrying, Climbing, Crawling, Hearing/Listening, Lifting, Manual Dexterity, Pulling/Pushing, Seeing, Speaking, Squatting/Kneeling, Standing, and Walking.
