Job Title: Pharmacy Intern
Job Objectives:
• Learn to provide the best patient experience by assisting the pharmacist and pharmacy team.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
• Model and deliver a positive customer experience.
• Learn and champion pharmacy policies, procedures, and customer service practices.
Job Responsibilities/Tasks:
Customer Experience:
• Engage customers, offering assistance and resolving issues.
• Model and share customer service best practices.
• Develop strong customer relationships.
Operations:
• Learn from store and pharmacy team members and field leadership.
• Assist in the practice of pharmacy under pharmacist supervision, complying with regulations and the Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
• Perform assigned duties related to prescription processing, including entering, third-party processing, filling, and dispensing, following standard operating procedures.
• Assist pharmacists and healthcare providers in delivering patient care, including patient counseling and other health services within the state scope of practice for pharmacy interns.
• Immediately report prescription errors to the pharmacist and adhere to company policies.
• Adhere to the Good Faith Dispensing policy.
• Handle cash register operations and assist customers in locating over-the-counter products.
• Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s attention.
• Support inventory management activities, including ordering, unpacking, and storing pharmaceuticals. Maintain knowledge of asset protection techniques and file claims for discrepancies or damaged goods.
• Assist with maintaining the cleanliness and order of the Pharmacy Department.
• Comply with all company policies and procedures and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
• Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
Training and Personal Development:
• Complete required training.
• Maintain knowledge and skills in healthcare and pharmacy.
Basic Qualifications:
• Must be enrolled in a school of Pharmacy program.
• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prior work experience with Walgreens.
• Good math skills for accurate prescription filling.
Salary Range: $16.50 per hour – $25.00 per hour. Actual hourly salary will depend on various factors including geography, skills, education, and experience.
