Job Title: Pharmacy Intern

Location: Morehead, KY

Employment Type: Part-Time, Varied schedule and hours.

Summary: The Pharmacy Intern is responsible for providing essential services under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The primary goal of this role is to optimize medication use for patients by delivering comprehensive pharmaceutical care.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Patient Care and Regimen Management:
• Designs, recommends, monitors, and evaluates patient-specific pharmacotherapeutic regimens when consulted, ensuring optimal medication outcomes.
Medication Information Provision:
• Provides accurate and clear information to patients and their caregivers regarding medication use, potential side effects and their management, and drug interactions.
• Delivers accurate and timely drug information to other healthcare providers, supporting informed clinical decisions.
Medication Safety and Quality:
• Assesses, manages, prevents, and reports medication errors and adverse drug reactions, contributing to patient safety.
• Prepares and dispenses medication using appropriate techniques, strictly adhering to departmental policies and procedures.
• Ensures the correct medication and dosage are utilized, with appropriate monitoring for clinical efficacy and the absence of adverse effects.
Process Improvement and Team Collaboration:
• Works collaboratively with other members of the healthcare team to continually improve the medication use process and the drug distribution system, aiming to maximize patient benefits from their medications.
• Manages workflow effectively, leveraging departmental staff to achieve established turnaround times.
Professional Development:
• Maintains a strong commitment to the ongoing development of the profession of pharmacy and its practitioners.

Required Qualifications:

Education: Must be actively enrolled in an accredited school of pharmacy.
Experience: No prior experience is required for this position.
Licensure/Certification: Must be registered with the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacist Intern.
