Job Description:

This is a 1.0 FTE, Full Time, Rotating shift position within the Pharmacy – Graduate Education department. The role is a Pharmacist Resident position. The minimum and maximum offer is $31.52/hr.

Key Responsibilities:

• Complete residency objectives and requirements within a 12-month period (potential extension).
• Consult and educate physicians, healthcare professionals, patients, and families on drug usage, dosage, efficacy, side effects, and drug substitution.
• Focus on cost-effective drug usage in inpatient and outpatient settings and improve patient care quality.
• Actively participate in quality programs.
• Ensure adherence to hospital and departmental policies.
• Patient care assignments may include neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric age groups.
• Function as a staff pharmacist in the UNMH Department of Pharmacy.
• Complete all specialized rotations as required.
• Collaborate on the selection and individualization of drug therapy.
• Contribute to the design, selection, monitoring, and evaluation of patient-specific treatment regimens.
• Document patient information and recommendations in patient charts and clinical documentation software.
• Make recommendations for changes in therapy to enhance patient care and decrease costs.
• Participate in medication usage evaluations (MUE) and clinical practice guideline preparation.
• Review non-formulary drug requests and recommend formulary alternatives.
• Participate in pharmacokinetic monitoring.
• Provide concise, complete, and timely responses to drug information requests.
• Provide discharge counseling and prescription evaluation.
• Participate in the education of students at the UNM College of Pharmacy and UNMH.
• Retain the appointment of Clinical Adjunct Professor at the UNM College of Pharmacy.
• Present the required number of lectures per year at the UNM College of Pharmacy.
• Act as Chief Resident and mentor to General Practice Residents.
• Complete a residency project to improve clinical services and achieve research objectives.
• Prepare a publication-ready manuscript and present the residency project at the Western States Residency Conference.
• Participate in quality improvement programs.
• Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Demonstrate a proactive approach to patient safety.
• Identify and report/correct environmental conditions that may put a patient at undue risk.
• Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors, and/or near misses.
• Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care.

Qualifications:

Education:
• Essential: Residency Program Graduate, Completion of 1st Year of Pharmacy Practice, Accredited College of Pharmacy.
• Nonessential: MS Pharm, PharmD, or Pharmcotherapy Board Certification
Experience: No experience requirements listed
Credentials:
• Essential: CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers within 30 days, Licensed Pharmacist in NM or obtain within 120 days.
• Nonessential: NM Chemotherapy Certification
Physical Conditions: Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Working conditions: No or min hazard, physical risk, office environment

Compensation:

• Minimum Offer: $31.52/hr.
• Maximum Offer: $31.52/hr.
• Shift Differentials: 17% Weekday Nights, 26% Weekend Nights, 15% Weekend Day shift.
• Compensation is based on factors like experience, education, and organizational considerations.
