Job Description: Personal Systems Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning Intern

This is a 12-week paid summer internship within HP’s Personal Systems organization. The team focuses on creating a digital experience ecosystem through advancements in computing, artificial intelligence, and machine learning; developing immersive experiences via peripherals; and expanding digital services.

Responsibilities:

As an intern, you will contribute to projects involving:

Software Development and Testing: Documenting and testing new AI/ML software applications.
Idea Assessment: Evaluating new application ideas within the AI/ML domain.
Product Enhancement and Design: Improving existing products and creating new product designs using AI/ML.
Application Development: Developing applications (coding and programming).
Quality Assurance: Ensuring quality and performance of AI/ML applications.
Deep Learning Research: Participating in cutting-edge research in deep learning. This includes generating data and fine-tuning models to enhance performance based on specific metrics.
AI Solutions for Gaming: Identifying unique AI solutions tailored for the gaming ecosystem.
Data Analysis: Applying data analysis techniques to balance class distributions, remove outliers, and reduce noise in supervised trained AI models.
Generative AI at the Edge: Working on generative AI applications for edge devices.
AI Assistant Development: Creating an AI assistant for HP security software capable of explaining security features.
SLM Optimization: Testing and optimizing fine-tuned small language models (SLMs) on Windows PCs.
User Experience Assessment: Evaluating the user experience of AI models on edge devices.
Agentic AI: Exploring large multimodal model compression and acceleration, conversational interfaces, retrieval augmented generation (RAG), and visual and spatial understanding.

Required Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in a university degree program: Completion of the 3rd year of a Bachelor’s degree, the 1st year of a Master’s degree, or a PhD candidate (typically in a technical field).

Preferred Qualifications:

Major: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or Data Science.
Programming Languages: Experience with Python, Java, C/C++, or C#.
AI Models: Familiarity with Linear Regression, Logistic Regression, Decision Trees, Random Forests, etc.
Tools: Experience with Tableau, GitHub, and Jupyter Notebook.
Deep Learning Frameworks: Experience with one or more frameworks (Caffe, Caffe2, PyTorch, TensorFlow).
Skills: Good technical judgment, initiative, critical thinking, effective teamwork, strong communication skills, solution-oriented thinking, customer-centric approach, creativity, and problem-solving abilities.
