The Perception Team & Your Role

At Woven by Toyota, we tackle a diverse array of challenging problems, from solving optimization problems in 3D geometric computer vision and minimizing latency on hardware accelerators, to designing novel neural network architectures and advancing the state-of-the-art in Machine Learning (ML) for perception, prediction, and motion planning.

The Perception team is actively seeking a strong candidate in machine learning to join our 2025 intern program. As an intern, you will collaborate with our world-class machine learning engineers to push the boundaries of our state-of-the-art perception system for autonomous driving. Your future colleagues are experts in autonomous driving ML, with extensive experience in developing and deploying deep learning models across the entire software stack. What We’ll Give You

The primary objective of this internship is for you to gain hands-on industry experience and conduct cutting-edge research within the domain of autonomous driving. You will have access to our mature machine learning infrastructure and a massive amount of data to experiment with, ultimately aiming to improve our system. The focus will be on research and the ultimate deployment of your work onto our prototype vehicles, which you will have the unique opportunity to experience on public roads.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in Perception ML model R&D, including prototyping, validating, and iterating on both existing and novel model architectures.
  • Own the end-to-end development of new model functionality, encompassing initial development, optimization, production platform validation, and fine-tuning based on metrics and real-world road performance.
  • Demonstrate a team player mentality and a strong “get things done” attitude.
  • Produce a final report and present your findings to the autonomy team.
  • Collaborate closely with other Perception team members, as well as with upstream and downstream customer teams.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Masters or PhD degree with a research focus in: Computer Vision, Robotics, or Deep Learning.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and expertise in ML development with PyTorch.
  • Proven ability to develop ML models.
  • Extensive experience in deep learning.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to articulate complex concepts clearly and precisely.
  • Passionate about self-driving car technology and its potential to benefit humanity.
  • Ability to commit to a 12-week internship beginning in May or June of 2026.

Compensation & Logistics

  • The base pay for this position ranges from $30 – $55 per hour.
  • This internship is a temporary, non-permanent position designed to provide practical experience and valuable learning opportunities.
  • The duration of the internship is 12 weeks.
  • The total compensation offered will be dependent upon the individual’s skills, experience, qualifications, location, and level.
