PE – Civil – Structural Tutor | Varsity Tutors

This role is crucial for delivering specialized instruction, making a significant impact on civil engineering students’ academic success and understanding as they prepare for the PE Civil Structural examination.

• Mission: Tutor civil engineers to prepare for the structural depth portion of the PE Civil examination, ensuring their academic success and understanding.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Instruct: Provide personalized 1-on-1 online tutoring or accept on-demand instant tutoring requests for PE Civil Structural exam preparation.
• Educate: Explain PE Civil Structural examination content, including structural analysis, steel, concrete, wood, and masonry design, along with seismic design and relevant structural engineering codes.
• Strategize: Guide students through strategic test-taking, problem-solving techniques, and efficient navigation of design manuals and reference codes under timed conditions.
• Adapt: Modify instructional methods using NCEES practice examinations, code reference exercises, and structural design problems to address common student challenges and learning needs.
• Support: Utilize the AI-powered Tutor Copilot to enhance sessions with real-time instructional support, lesson generation, and engagement features, saving prep time.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Deep knowledge of PE Civil Structural examination content, including structural analysis, various material designs, and seismic design.
• Experience: Skilled at teaching structural member design, load analysis, and code reference navigation, with familiarity in preparing civil engineers for the structural depth portion of the PE Civil examination.
• Skills: Ability to identify and explain concepts using multiple approaches, strong communication skills with an engaging teaching style, and adaptability to individual learning needs.
• Skills: Mastery of structural engineering codes such as ACI 318, AISC 360, and ASCE 7, including their application to load combinations and member design.
